Lot of two documents regarding dueling ; 1) Letter approx. 9-3/4” by 7-7/8”, January 1851, from Gardner Howland of New York to Giles Lanford Esq. of Erie, New York. ‘At the insistence of our mutual friend, Mr. Lewis, I have taken to make the inquiries’ regarding a duel fought at Erie and shows seals and postage stamps on reverse. E2) A short letter or note, approx. 5-1/4” by 7-1/2”, the commonwealth of Kentucky, Warren County Seat, concerns Wm. R. Payne mentions Mitchell, Justice of the Peace, took an oath to effectively suppress the practice of dueling, effective February 1812, as quartermaster in the Kentucky Militia, signed the 27th day of March, 1813. Signed A. T. Mitchell, Justice of the Peace. The condition is good with some folding, slight burning, normal aging. At least very good, clearly written and very legible. From the William R.
