This lot contains a pair of cards from the classic 1953 Topps set, including #62, Hall of Famer, Monte Irvin. Irvin was an established star n the Negro National League where he won a pair of batting titles. He joined the major leagues in 1950 at age 30, where he put together several productive seasons. Also included in the lot is #135 Al Rosen, an all-star third baseman and MVP who had his career cut short by injuries. Rosen put together perhaps the greatest offensive season for a third-baseman in MLB history when he hit .336 with 43 home runs and 145 RBI. He lost the triple crown by .01% to Mickey Vernon who hit .337. In his brief full-time 7-year career (10 years total) Rosen led the AL in HR twice and RBI twice, while knocking in 100 or more runs five times. Over those 7 full-time seasons he averaged 27 HR and 101 RBI with a .287 batting average and .886 OPS. Both cards are lower grade with Irvin in the VG range with an ink mark (see scan) and Rosen grading PR.
