39 inches overall, with a 33 inch blade, fitted with separate sets of double fullers at the ricasso and center of the blade, and etched decoration on both sides, featuring scroll and thistle designs on both sides, with "93rd/ HIGHLANDERS" on the left side, and banners reading "CAPE OF GOOD HOPE", "BALAKLAVA" and "SEVASTOPOL" on the reverse. The left ricasso bears a brass proof stamp, with a faint London maker's mark on the reverse. The 93rd Sutherland Highlanders were the opposing force to Andrew Jackson during the Battle of New Orleans, the final fight of the War of 1812, served in the Crimean War, where they earned the nickname "The Thin Red Line" after repelling a cavalry charge during the Battle of Balaklava, and helped put down the Indian Mutiny. Basket hilt, with cut-through heart designs, an upturned rear quillion, red felt covered hide inner lining, wire wrapped rayskin grip and a purple fringe around the pommel.

Condition: Very good, showing some light spotting on the blade, a mixed brown patina on the hilt, and scattered handling marks. The liner shows some mild fading and wear. All fittings are tight.
