London Agency Colt Single Action Army Revolver in 45 Eley Short Caliber with Factory Letter

Estimate: $2500 - 3750
These revolvers were manufactured to be sold through Colt's London Agency. This revolver was manufactured in 1877. The top of the barrel is marked "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON.". The left side of the frame has the three-line, three-date patent marking and the left trigger guard shoulder is stamped "45 CAL/B". The matching serial number is marked on the frame, trigger guard, and back strap, with the partial serial number "8395" on the bottom of the barrel under the ejector housing. The barrel is stamped with British "crown/V" and "crown/GP" proofs just ahead of the cylinder pin and the proofs alternate between each cylinder chamber. The revolver had a casehardened frame and hammer and the remaining parts blue. Blade front and frame notch rear sights, "bulls-eye" ejector rod head and fitted with a smooth one-piece walnut grip. The accompanying factory letter verifies the caliber, blue finish, with barrel length and grips as "Not Listed" and that it was shipped as 1 of 56 to the Colt London Agency in London, England on October 11, 1877.
BBL: 5 1/2 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 45 Eley Short
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 38395
Condition: Good as refinished. The metal surfaces have a smooth cold blued mottled gray patina. The grip is good with a small chip on the right toe, some wear and small nicks on the lower edges and overall a few minor handling marks. The markings are clear, (the British proofs are very tiny, but recognizable). The wood grip is fair with heavy wear. The action functions, but is out of time, needs work.
