Late Wheelock hunting rifle signed in fancy script initials on lock possibly for one of Zellner family. The rifle measures 45 ½” overall with 31” barrel of approximately .58 caliber. The stock is nicely inlaid in the19th century probably by Spitzer and the brass mounts show traces of original gold gilt and are nicely engraved. There is a beautiful stand of lock arms engraved upon a large plaque inlaid on the right side ofstock. The inlays are 98% plus intact and we could find none missing. The stock is in very good condition with a light coating of spray clear lacquer and the metal surfaces show a light gray to brown patina with somescattered minor light to moderate pitting. The lock plate and hammer are lightly engraved and are in good condition. The lock shows an enclosed wheel of the late era. There is a number on the barrel which appears to be 91 or 97 and that may correspond with the date of Mfg. about 1691-1697. There is a wing screw for removing the lock plate on the left side plate. The interior of the lock is complete and the gun is at least very good
