This is a nice example of a late WWII German K98 rifle with the short side rail sniper rifle system. This mounting system was originally intended for police use during the mid 1930s, and in 1941 was adopted for general combat use with the K98 rifles. The top of the receiver ring is marked "byf" over "44". The top of the receiver ring is also marked with two "eagle / 135" proofs. The left side of the barrel is marked with the Nazi firing proof and the left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number behind the Nazi firing proof. The right rear of the barrel is marked with a shield followed by "441". The floor plate mounting iron is marked with the complete matching serial number and with a "eagle/135" proof. Most parts are marked with the partial matching number "06". The rifle is equipped with a Meopta scope with a leather object end cover and wooden plug for the optic end, mounted on a phosphate mount numbered to the gun. Hooded ramp inverted "V" front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 meters. Stamped front barrel band and milled rear barrel band, floor plate and trigger guard. The rifle bolt has the late war "Key" safety. Mounted with a smooth walnut pistol grip stock marked with a small "eagle/WaA655 Waffenamt proof on the right side and two in the wrist area.
