Late WWII Japanese Type 14 Nambu Semi-Automatic Pistol, #71841, 8mm Nambu cal., 4.75" barrel, blued finish, all visible numbers matching except magazine, Toriimatsu factory of Nagoya Arsenal proof marks, dated Showa 20.6 (June 1945), large trigger guard, drift adjustable inverted "V" front sight and integral fixed rear sight with square notch, coarse knurled cocking knob, and lanyard loop. Smooth mahogany wood grips are numbered to the gun, with one non-matching number blued steel magazine with pot metal base. Typical last ditch, crude, rough machining lines and finish to frame and most of the parts. Condition is excellent retaining approx. 97% original war-time blued finish, with minor holster wear at the rear of the slide, wear marks from firing on the top of the slide, slight wear on trigger guard edges, and minor light freckling on the underside of the barrel. Grip straps are just slightly thinning with typical half-moon scratches around the safety lever area. Action, hold open, and safety all function properly; bore is mostly bright with just a hint of frosting, that may improve to mint with a good cleaning. Grips show only light age and use, with minor scratches and light dings; grip screws show light wear and clean slots. Magazine shows wear lines from use and light freckling, with oxidation to the base. Overall, a very nice example, made only two months before the end of the war. Est.: $600-$800. (C&R/PPT)
