This is an example of a post WWI Model 1896 "Bolo" Broomhandle Mauser pistol. It is called a Bolo because of it's distinctive shaped/smaller dimension pistol grip as compared to the standard 1896 Mauser pistols. These were widely sold through Europe and in the U.S. with serial numbers found up in the 600,000 range. The chamber and right side of the frame have the standard Mauser factory address markings along with the later style "Mauser Banner" logo on the left rear frame panel. The left side of the chamber and top rear portion of the bolt have a single "Crown/U" proofmark. Fitted with the short four inch barrel with the inverted "v" front sight mounted on a barrel band, military style tangent rear sight graduated from 50-1000 meters and correct matching set of original Bolo style walnut grips, with the lanyard stud on the underside of the butt, however it is missing the lanyard loop.
BBL: 4 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 7.63 mm Mauser auto
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 506454
Condition: Good with 40% of the much faded original blued finish remaining overall. The grips are in poor condition, showing heavy wear on both sides. The pistol has matching numbers on the major parts. Mechanically excellent.
