Late 18th to early 19th century pipe tomahawk showing beautifully striped American walnut shaft with pewter mountings at head and tip. This tomahawk measures 20 ¼” overall with 7” blade which is approximately 2 ¼” across the cutting edge. There is a broad head arrow stamp on the right side of the blade indicating English made for trade and the front of the pewter cap which holds the head shows nice engraving with 6 arrows and a super-imposed knights type cross. The condition is fine to near excellent overall with museum number or collection number 20. 811 painted in red on blade possibly Bob Ables who marked his Bowie and tomahawk collection this way. Last sold by little John’s for the estate of William E. Simon former U.S. treasury secretary lot number 33 months of 2003. Est.: $7,000-$14,000.
