Larry Hagman Personal Note From William Hammerstein
William Hammerstein was a famous producer in his own right, as well as having the fame of being an extension of his legendary father, Oscar Hammerstein II. He is credited with keeping his family's legacy alive. William started the careers of countless actors, writers and producers, including giving the first break to Neil Simon by producing his first play on Broadway. He also managed his father's classics such as "Oklahoma!", "The King and I', "The Sound Of Music", and "South Pacific". It was on "South Pacific" that he began a life-long friendship with star Mary Martin, and her son Larry Hagman. This is an extremely rare note written by William and on his personal William Hammerstein stationary. Mr. Hammerstein taped a photo he had cut out of a trade paper, of the young Hagman hugging his mother on the opening night of "South Pacific", and wrote "Dear Larry - Good Luck! - Love Bill". This was for Hagman's own Broadway debut in "Comes A Day". Hagman kept this with him for the rest of his life, and considered it his good luck charm. (Letter approx 6"x8"). Shows signs of age, and the original tape is yellowed).
