This is an original, authentic Lambert Homer, Sr. Zuni Rainbow Man Kachine, large brooch pin in sterling silver with an amazing multiple stone inlay dating to the late 1930s to early 1940s from the Francoise Perriot collection. Labert Homer, Sr. (1917-1972) is widely recognized as one of the finest lapidarist of his time and was known to have collaborated with other notable artists who also worked with trader C.G. Wallace. Homer was known as doing inlays of Knife Wings and Rainbow Gods and is credited with the first use of the Gan Dancer in a jewelry motif. Zuni artists that he collaborated with include Dan Simplicio, Leo Poblano, Ida Poblano, and his son Lambert Homer, Jr. He also worked with Navajo silver-workers, Roger Skeet and Charlie Bitsui. Lambert, who was married to Juanita Homer, and his brother Bernard, who was married to Alice Homer, worked closely with their wives, both of whom were daughters of Leekya.

This example shows the Rainbow Man Kachina on sterling silver with large sterling silver stamped spots with mosaic inlays of spiny oyster shell, turquoise, black onyx, coral, mother of pearl with various types of turquoise. The reverse shows a pin back. The piece was confirmed by a French expert through Francoise Perriot to be an original Lambert Homer, Sr. piece. Some of Lambert Homer's pieces have sold at auction for nearly $10,000, and he is one of the most highly sought after early Zuni artist.

Provenance: From the personal collection of Francoise Perriot (Françoise Perriot), noted historian author of the West and Native Americans. Perriot’s published works include such books as “Les Indiens et La Nature” (Indians and Nature) 2017, “La Conquête du Far West” (The Conquest of the Wild West) 2007, “Les Indiens d'Amérique du Nord” (North American Indians), “Guide Bleu : Etats-Unis Ouest Americain” (Blue Guide: United States West America). This piece and others come from her time collecting in Montana and the West. Her book “Les Indiens et la nature” is one of the most notable in France documenting photographs of the West.
