The lot features a beaded heavy canvas horse headstall from the Lakota Sioux with the iconic Morning Star design dating to the early-to-mid-20th Century from Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The piece exhibits a thick trade canvas, muslin and leather construction covered in glass trade seed beads being trade thread sewn in a loom beaded pattern showing the eight-point Morning Star running across all aspects of the headstall. The piece has some nice age to it and shows good preservation with little to no bead loss. Collected from the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation. The bottom shows a white and blue fancy rope with Germantown woven yarn adornments with horse tail hair fringes. Nearly identical to the Sioux Early 20th Century Beaded Headstall offered on 1stDibs for $3,950 and sold. This example is also on canvas, loom beaded with the nose section split. The piece measures approximately 20"L with an additional 32"L reins and the beaded straps are about 1.75"W.
