Lakota Sioux Beaded Indian Hide Pipe Bag
The lot features a fantastic, Sioux Native American Indian, beaded hide pipe bag with long frilly fringes in a traditional early pattern. The bag is constructed of Indian tanned hide with all early glass trade seed beads in a geometric pattern with colors of greasy blue, cobalt, greasy yellow, Cheyenne pink, semi-transparent rose, semi-transparent green, and chalk white. The bag shows beadwork on both sides, a nice large section at the base, traditional triangular patterns just above, and borders running vertically on both sides that lead to a beaded edge opening. The bag has the original Indian hide tie strap at the top with rolled tin jingle cones, metal hawk trade bell at the end. The long Indian hide fringe at the base of the pipe bag has a wonderful, twisted, frilly pattern and is in very good condition. The bag displays wonderfully. The bag has the correct period beads and construction to be considered early 1900's, but the exact age is unknown. Measures overall 34" L by 5.25" W.
