The 37 Rat Rod

THIS IS A CLASSIC “ OLD SCHOOL” RAT ROD

THE 37 FORD SPENT YEARS STORED OUTSIDE ON A FARM WHERE IT DEVELOPED A GREAT PATINA OVER 80 SOME YEARS WHICH INCLUDED MOULD AND FUNGI ROSETTES ON THE PAINT.

THE CAB WAS LEFT ORIGINAL WITH IT’S VARIOUS DENTS AND MINOR RUST AND WAS PLACED OVER A 1928 MODEL A FRAME RAILS THAT WERE BOXED AND REINFORCED WITH TCI CHASSIS PARTS INCLUDING A 4 LINK REAR SUSPENSION WITH COIL OVER SHOCKS. THIS FRAME WAS CHOSEN AS IT WAS NARROWER THAN THE ORIGINAL TRUCK FRAME AND ALLOWED THE CAB TO BE CHANNELED 6 INCHES WITH OUT CUTTING UP THE CAB BODY.

THE FRAME WAS SHORTENED 10 INCHES IN THE FRONT TO SET THE CAB CLOSER TO THE FRONT SUSPENSION. 1966 CORVAIR FRONT CONTROL ARMS , STEERING RACK, BRAKE DRUMS AND COIL SUSPENSION WERE WELDED ONTO THE FRONT FRAME RAILS -- THIS IS AN OLD SCHOOL HOT ROD CONVERSION NOT USUALLY USED TODAY. REAR SUSPENSION IS A 1967 MUSTANG 8 ½ INCH DIFFERENTIAL WITH DRUM BRAKES HUNG ON THE FRAME RAILS WITH TCI COMPONENTS.

THE TRUCK BOX WAS “BOBBED” IN TWO PLACES TO SHORTEN IT AND ALLOW THE WHEEL ARCH TO BE PROPERLY LOCATED OVER THE REAR WHEELS.

THE TAIL GATE IS MADE UP OF BARN BOARD FROM AN OLD HORSE BARN STALL AND HAS HAND FORMED AND FORGED CUSTOM FORD LETTERS.

WHEELS ARE CUSTOM WHEELSMITH WIRE WHEEL UNITS 14 INCH IN THE FRONT AND 15 INCH IN THE REAR WITH AMERICAN CLASSIC WIDE WHITE WALL TIRES.

THE MOTOR IS A 1964 283 CHEVY WITH 4 BOLT MAIN BEARINGS MODIFIED WITH 327 “CAMEL HUMP” HEADS PRODUCING OVER 300 HP. THESE MOTORS ARE COMMONLY REFERRED TO AS “SPINNERS” AS THEY REV UPWARDS OF CLOSE TO 7000 RPM.

EXHAUST IS BY CLASSIC LONG TUBE HEADER’S

TRANSMISSION IS A DRAG READY 2 SPEED POWER GLIDE WITH A MODIFIED SHIFT BODY AND 3500 STALL TORQUE CONVERTER. IT IS SHIFTED USING A LOKAR SHIFT KIT WITH A CUSTOM FABRICATED LONG SHIFT ARM AND A SHRUNKEN HEAD SHIFT KNOB.

THE STEERING WHEEL IS A CUT DOWN ROSEWOOD BANJO STYLE WHEEL MOUNTED TO A FLAMING RIVER COLUMN.

VINTAGE GAUGES WERE MOUNTED IN THE ORIGINAL DASH.

THE FRONT SEAT IS A DODGE VAN UNIT COVERED WITH A TRADITIONAL MEXICAN BLANKET.

THE GAS TANK IS A CUSTOM BARREL UNIT WITH HAND MADE LEATHER MOUNTING STRAPS.

THE RAT ROD HAS WON NUMEROUS AWARDS THROUGHOUT SASKATCHEWAN AND ALBERTA AND WAS A FEATURE CAR AT DRAGGINS IN 2019 AT SASKATOON WHEN STEVE DARNELL FROM VEGAS RAT RODS WAS A SPECIAL GUEST. MOST RECENTLY THE TRUCK WON FIRST PLACE AT WORLD OF WHEELS 2020 IN CALGARY

RECENT APPRAISAL WELL OVER $30,000 FOR INSURANCE PURPOSES

THE CAR IS DRIVEN LOTS, WINS LOTS AT CAR SHOWS, AND WAS DRIVEN WITHOUT PROBLEMS TO THE GOOD GUYS WESTERN SHOW IN SPOKANE WASHINGTON FROM CALGARY.
