Kentucky rifle by Henry Deringer of Philadelphia showing hand hewn later restock and reconversion to flintlock. The rifle measures 53-1/2” overall. The barrel is approx. 38-1/4” and approx. .52 caliber which is old rifling and probably the original caliber. The rifle shows a large v-notch rear sight, a front post made of horn which is a period replacement. The stock is old and somewhat crudely made and shows a more modern refinish. The triggerguard and sideplate probably made at the time of restocking. Many small screws replaced. Barrel secured by three large keys. The reconversion is somewhat crude and of the type done in the1950’s. The lock is clearly marked, there is traces of marking on the barrel. A shame they didn’t leave this one alone as we would have loved to see it in percussion before restoration. Est: $750 - $1,500
