K98 Mauser Turret Style Sniper Rifle with Hensoldt Scope
This is an example of a restored WWII German turret type sniper rifle manufactured by the Mauser factory that has been fitted with a Hensoldt sniper scope. The turret mount rifles were considered the most efficient design of the K98 rifles and they were in service from their introduction in 1939 to the end of the war. The left side of the receiver is marked with the serial number and a single "eagle / 37" Waffenamt proof, the left side of the barrel is marked with a German firing proof and an "eagle / 135" proof (both restamped) and the left side receiver wall is marked "Mod.98". The top of the barrel at the breech is marked "MC". The left side of the lower edge of the front scope ring is stamped with the rifle serial number. The rifle is fitted with an early all blued sniper scope made by the Hensoldt scope company with the top rear marked "cad" and has the correct style sniper elevation knob that is graduated from 100-800 meters. The cleaning rod is absent. The rifle is equipped with a hooded ramp front sight and tangent rear sight graduated to 200 meters, and mounted with a light colored unmarked laminated stock with cupped buttplate and handguard.
BBL: 24 inch round
Stock: laminated
Gauge: 8 mm
Finish: blue
Grips:
Serial Number: 4207k
Condition: Fine as professionally assembled and restored, with 99% of the refinished blue finish remaining. There is some wear and thinning on the barrel and some thinning on the barrel bands. There is some minor pitting under the finish on the bolt. Currently the rifle has matching numbers, however the bolt assembly, barrel bands and floor plate have been restamped and the front scope base has been numbered to match the rifle. Markings have been restamped and the safety lever top rear of the bolt assembly and forward barrel band have been re-numbered to match the gun. The current replacement laminated stock is excellent with only slight handling marks. The buttplate has been cleaned and shows some minor pitting. Clear markings, unless noted above. The action is excellent. A representative example of a WWII German high turret type sniper rifle.
