Jenks “Mule Ear” percussion carbine, .54 cal., 24-1/4” barrel, brown and case hardened finish, wood stock, brass mountings, #NVSN. This gun is in overall fine to near excellent condition showing the majority of itsoriginal brown finish to the barrel, traces of case color on the lockplate, fine bore, crisp action, sharp markings including USN on top of barrel at breech and P proof with RP inspector’s mark; overall fine wood with some scattered old mars from storage; small brass plaque mounted on right side of butt stock “62” which may be an inventory or rack designation; total quantity made approx. 4,250 between 1843-1846; an exceptionalexample of this rare carbine.
