Japanese copy of a rolling-block shotgun, approx. 410 ga, 23-1/2” barrel, 38-3/4” overall. The frame is nicely silver inlaid, the stock is carved with stylized dragon in the clouds scene. The silver inlay in theframe and hammer are also stylized clouds. The wood is a foreign hardwood, possibly rosewood or similar. The stocks are interestingly checkered. There are some oriental characters or signature in the belly of the stock. The shotgun shows a small “V” notch rear sight with bead front sight. The condition is fair to good with a brown patina, some scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The stock is good to very good witha couple of small chips and one large chip at the top of the stock where the stock meets the top of the frame. A couple of screws have been marred, there are some scratches in the butt. A recognized collector who has passedaway believed the markings and the stock had to do with ownership by the Japanese royal family (unconfirmed as we do not read Japanese). A one of a kind piece that warrants further research. Est: $750 - $2,500
