Japanese Type 14 Nambu 8mm semi-automatic pistol with small trigger guard, serial number 61119 dated 14 – 5 showing in theater made grips from cockpit canopy with Philippine native photographs mounted beneath the grips in a window type display . This exact pistol was presented to Bob Hope during a USO tour in the South Pacific during World War II. There is a copy of a newspaper article dated April 13th,1947 showing Bob Hope next to a bullet hole in a cabinet door when thispistol was accidentally discharged (He is holding this pistol in the photo). The actual cabinet door with a later cartoon is included showing the bullet hole and a small reminder that reads “And he said it wasn’t loaded, September 4, 1944”. Also the book entitled “The War years 1942-1945” on page 189 where it mentions this accident and the fact it occurred after a series of performances that carried Mr. Hope 30,000 miles and he was exhausted after performing over 150 times. Thelast leg of the trip took 50 hours and he was showing off his souvenirs and giving a lecture on firearm safety when the gun discharged.
