UNUSUAL MAKERS TAPERED CASE. Cal. 12 Ga. 2-1/2". S# 5680 (1905). The 28-1/4" three stripe damascus barrels are engraved "John Dickson & Son 63 Princes Street Edinburgh" on slightly swamped game rib. Barrel flats are stamped with London nitro proofs for 1-1/8" shot. Case hardened boxlock action with intercepting safety sears and hidden third fastener also features automatic safety and double triggers. Action is engraved with 80% coverage of small scroll. Maker's name is on each side. Blued top lever, floorplate, trigger plate and trigger guard are also engraved with scroll. S# is on trigger guard tang. Lightly fiddle figured and streaked Europeon walnut, straight grip buttstock measures 14-5/8" over serated wood butt. Flat top point pattern checkering is at grip and a vacant gold oval is on toeline. Matching splinter Deeley ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: L .732. R .724. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: unusual makers tapered leather trunk case embossed "W. R. H." on lid. Interior is lined in burgundy cloth and a brown gold embossed Dickson lion label is in lid. There are no accessories present. CONDITION: very good as partially refinished. Barrels retaining nearly all best quality re-brown with fine definition to pattern. Action retains traces of original case hardening color where protected and is mostly a pleasing pewter gray. Stocks retain nearly all of an oil refinish with some subsequent marks. Checkering re-cut, forend re-cut with raised diamonds. Bores are bright and shiny over some light pitting with some evidence of very minor dent removal 14" from muzzle of left barrel. Action is tight. Barrels on face. Ejectors in time. Case leather is dark, shows many scuffs on exterior. Straps and handle are good. Interior cloth is good with some rubs especially breech area of barrel compartment. Label is good to fine with deep rub on lions face. (23-1271/MGM). C&R. $1,500-2,500.
