Presented in this lot is a Vintage Lithograph of J. J. Audubon's "Red-shouldered Hawk Falco Lineatus, Gmel. Male,1, Female, 2.", No. 12, Plate, LVI, From the Collection of the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Drawn from Nature and Published by John J. Audubon, F,R,S. F, L., S. Engraved, Printed & Coloured by R. Havell. This lithograph is from the R. Havell & Son in London edition, one of five different editions published by John James Audubon and his sons in the 19th century. The original Havell edition prints were all skillfully hand-colored by highly experienced artists in the printing shop. John James Audubon was a French-American artist, naturalist, and ornithologist notable for his extensive studies documenting all types of American birds and for his detailed illustrations, which depicted the birds in their natural habitats. His major work, a color-plate book titled, "The Birds of America", considered one of the finest ornithological works ever completed. This lithograph is in good overall condition with some slight visible creases and punctures from previous mounting. No other obvious marring noted. Visible art measures 15"W x 19"L, rustic painted, gold gilt wood frame is in good overall condition measuring 18.75"W x 22.75"L.
