JAPANESE ARMY KYU-GUNTO.
Kyu-gunto of this form were generally used from 1883 until 1945. They became popular during the Russo-Japanese War and remained in service until the close of WWII. Overall length: 33 1/2”. Blade length: 22 1/8”. Blade has an irregular hamon. The habaki is copper. The nakago is unsigned and has 3 mekugi-ana. The tsuka is gilded brass with white same and a gold-plated wire wrap. There is a 10-petal cherry blossom on either side of the grip. There are no seppa. Saya is chrome plated and covered with brown leather with a leather tip. CONDITION: blade has a nice polish. Tsuka has lost much of its gilded finish and the same could use a cleaning. Saya shows light wear. Leather is in good shape with minor scuffs & scrapes.
