Cal. 25 ACP. S# 2613. Bbls. 2 7/16" w/ semicircular blade sight plus notch on "cyl." (BAR of flat 4 rd. design) latch at rear. Mfg. early 1900's in Germany w/ "BAR PISTOL" on top of bbl. Invented by Burchard (or Burkard) Behr who was Russian / Swiss engineer. Originally in 7x15.5mm proprietary caliber; about 1906 changed to smokeless 25 ACP about time Sauer took over production. Advancement of vest pocket pistols in 25 ACP caused demise of Bar Pistol. Fitted w/ 2 bbls. in O/U configuration where each pull of folding trigger on hammerless frame fired 1 barrel; after 2 shots, flat BAR could be rotated for 2 more shots before reloading. Matching numbered BAR easily snaps out after depressing release latch on top strap allowing ejection using ejector pin captivated at butt of grip. All bbls. encountered in 25 ACP have 278 on left side near frame. Under left grip is 2613 & also on BAR; proof symbol on right under grips has appearance of "8". Sauer trademark on front of frame plus crown over crown U on top left front. Numerous country patents listed on each side of BAR. Grips are checkered hard rubber appearing to be replacements by Triple-K; originals appear to have been checkered walnut. CONDITION: good appearance as refinished over some light dents & pits. Hand worn grips having frame proud of grips. Fair pitted & worn bores. Proper mechanical functioning. PROVENANCE: Marshall "Brook" Davis Collection. (23-1683/NW). CURIO. $500-750.
