J.P. McCree signed percussion derringer, Refer “The Deringer in America” by Doug Eberhardt page 204, where it is mentioned as 1 of only 2 known. Little to nothing is known of J.P. McCree other than is thought by Frank sellers and Eberhardt asto have made Kentucky style rifles. This pistol is signed J.P. McCree on the lock, is silver mounted and has an iron belt hook. The stocking is of good quality and unique design with no ramrod provision and a raised “Bump” at the front of thestock on which an engraved silver heart is inlayed. The lock, hammer, and inlays are lightly engraved in a rural American style. Measures 8” overall with a 4” barrel of .45 caliber with 7 grove rifled barrel. In good to very goodcondition. An intriguing and deluxe derringer pistol that exhibits characteristics of Kentucky and further south. Should be further researched. (Antique) est.; $3000-$6000
