J. Nowotny, Praha, Czechoslovakia marked high quality double barrel exposed hammer 16 gauge shotgun with rounded actions and steel barrels. This very high quality maker and his family were gunmakers to the royalty of Europe for generations. The gun shows 29 ½” barrels with full 2 ¾”chambers and shows premium Krupp steel marked barrels. The stock measures 13 ¾” to the end of the horn butt plate which is nicely checkered with a matching checkered horn pistol grip cap. There is a 2 ½” drop at the heel and 1 ¾” drop at the comb with no appreciable cast. The barrels show 80% to 90% original blue toning to a patina and the frame shows 50% to 60% case hardened color going to silver with some traces of vibrant colors. There is light engraving on the frame and mounts. The stock is good quality straight grain Walnut with crisp checkering and in very good condition. The gun locks tight and the bores are bright and there are no problems with the barrels. The hammers cock well and release crisp. A very fine name that is much underappreciated in this country.
