Italian light rapier or ‘pillow sword’, 36” blade, 42” overall, chiseled pommel and hilt, probably Italian, circa approx. 1660. The metal surfaces show a dark pataina, scattered erosion and pinprick pitting. The grip shows an old copper wire wrap. The sword appears to have never been cleaned or even apart. There is some light to moderate pitting overall and a couple small nicks to the edge from fighting. The center portion of theguard shows a portrait of an ugly person in the classic Italian style.
