Interesting presentation German/Mexican sword and scabbard, approx. 39-1/2” overall with a 33” blade with Stand-of-Flags and Snake and Eagle etching on both side of the hilt area of the blade (first approx. 7”) with balance of the blade unadorned except for a blood groove on both sides extending almost to the tip of the blade; the hilt is marked in fancy script writing that appears to be a French maker; the grip, guard and pommel are gold washed with a faux wire wrap; the leather scabbard is overall very good as re-done at a later date with a simple brass throat and brass drag; there is a fancy silver plaque (marked 800) attached to the scabbard just under the throat with an inscription “Hur Fahnennreihe 12. 6. 10 gen. Kr. Verein Beiseforth”; would be interesting to further research as there were many Germans in Mexico involved not only in military affairs but also in commerce and the consignor of this piece had no other information on the history of this presentation award. Est.: $800-$1,600.
