These revolver became popular sidearms, especially among Union officers. However, the Model No. 2 was never officially adopted by the U.S. Army. The top of the barrel rib is stamped with the one line Springfield address and the cylinder has the patent dates marking. The assembly number "27" is stamped on the barrel lug and cylinder. All blue finish with casehardened hammer and trigger. The revolver is fitted with a period extended two piece polished hard rubber grip with circular pearl inlays at the bottom. The only known factory extended grip can be observed on the only known 8 inch No. 2 Army and while this was not at the factory, it is certainly from the period. No serial number could be verified by the writer.
BBL: 6 inch solid rib
Stock:
Gauge: 32 RF
Finish: blue
Grips: hard rubber
Serial Number: NSN
Condition: Excellent. The revolver retains 95% original blue finish with some thinning to a brown. The last 2 inches of the grip strap has been professionally fitted to the contoure of the grip as all No. 2s exhibit a slight flare at the heel. The hammer retains some vivid and bright case colors. The grip is fine with some scattered minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent.
