Interesting Remington Smoot model spur trigger revolver, .30 cal., 2-3/4” barrel, nickel finish, checkered black hard rubber grips, #654, backstrap finely engraved in script, “Virgil Earp” which appears to be inthe style of the period. This gun is in overall very good to fine condition showing approx. 92% original finish with loss confined primarily to cylinder flutes and firing areas; very good bore, action andmarkings, very good to fine grips; from an old collection and believed by the consignor to be authentic; although no direct provenance to Earp is included, the lot is accompanied by a folder with information onVirgil Earp, one of the famous Earp brothers, covering his history from the Civil War thru various positions as a lawman in Dodge City, Kansas, Prescott, Arizona and of course, Tombstone, Arizona where in the closing daysof 1881, he was involved in the famous shootout near the OK Corral; after he was shot in an assassination attempt due to the OK Corral incident, Virgil returned to the family home in Colton, California to recover;
