Interesting Meacham-style conversion of a Sharps carbine to cartridge Sporting rifle, .45 cal., 30” octagon barrel, wood stocks, #C43935. This gun is in overall good condition showing a brown patina on metalsurfaces, and silvery toning to the case colors of the receiver, strong rifling in the barrel, good action and markings, underside of the barrel is stamped “6” and the barrel address is marked “Sharpe Rifle Co.,Bridgeport, Conn.” and Old Reliable in a lined border; the different spelling of the company name indicates possibly an English manufacture and appears period but not original Sharps Rifle Co. manufacture. Therifle has a single trigger with a “poor man’s” set trigger consisting of a set screw beneath the lockplate, Lawrence ladder rear sight and old copper blade front sight; saddle ring bar of carbine stock remains andthere is a well-done repair to the top front of the comb area of the butt stock; both fore stock and butt stock are overall good; just the type of frontier gunsmith conversion that would have been made in the West and used to
