Interesting French style flintlock carbine with removable butt stock circa about 1790- 1810. The carbine measures 28” overall with a 14” barrel of approximately .67 caliber smoothbore. There is a later inscription onthe lock which is scratched in and maybe an owner rather than maker. The metal surfaces show a gray to brown patina finish and light to moderate scattered erosion and pitting. The top jaw and screw are missing and thefrizzen shows an old relining from use. The wood is good and fairly sharp checkering with a couple of chips and losses behind the lock but generally good overall. A nice figure is carved at the bottom of the grip. Theremovable stock is secured by a key and released by a latch. This little gun has seen some wear and use but is untouched and as found out of the attic condition and would restore nicely.
