Interesting Colt Model 1851 small guard Navy percussion revolver, .36 cal., 7-1/2” octagon barrel, dark patina, wood grips, #13410. This gun is in overall good condition showing a dark patina on metal surfaces, good action and markings, scattered spots of erosion and pin prick pitting, traces of silver finish on brass straps, matching visible numbers, fair wood grips with scattered old mars and dings; accompanied with an old hand writtenletter dated April 12, 1932 and “Sacramento, California” indicating Colt revolver was found at Springfield Flat in the Bear River Canyon about 4-1/2 miles north of Dutch Flat, Placer Co. which at one time had animmigrant road down this ridge; letter further states the revolver was found in April 1892 under the remains of an old wagon, parts of which were still in evidence with most of the wood burned by forest fires. Theletter further states the gun when found, was rusty and was soaked in coal oil for several months and with sand paper, files and hammer was cleaned and made to work; one loaded chamber had the round drilled out as powder
