Interesting Belgian proofed brevet of model 1849 pocket model showing hand cut barrel address in block letters that reads “Address Sam’l. Colt New York City”. The cylinder scene is a Navy type with sailing ships and engagement dates at front of cylinder showing date of 1843. The revolver also shows British proofs. The pistol measures 11 ¼” overall with 5 ½” barrel of .31 caliber with 6 shot percussion cylinder. Approximately 30% to 60% original toning blue finish remains. The cylinder shows traces of blue going to brown. The frame shows traces of case hardening going to gray. The varnish wood grips are very good. The brass straps are a nice patina and not polished. The action is tight and works well. The right side of the frame is numbered 2104. A new book on brevets has just been released and authored by Marco and Paxson which clarifies and expands upon the association of Colt with European arms of this type. Gale Kennedy Historical West Collection. Est.: $600-$1,200.
