Indian trade type percussion half stocked rifle, .36 cal., 36” octagon barrel with desirable “J.P. Lower Phila” authentic marking on the top barrel flat, double set triggers, brass fore end tip, trigger guardand butt plate. This gun is in overall good to very good condition showing a pleasing brown patina on metal surfaces, unmarked lock plate, pitting around the firing area, good action, set trigger needs adjustment; darkbore, very good wood showing wear and some mars; small crack at back of lock plate; wood ramrod present. Lower worked in Philadelphia in the mid-1800s before moving out West to Denver where he becameparticularly known for his stocking and sale of heavy barreled rifles for the market hunter trade; personalized “D.F.L.” initials done in brass pins on underside of butt stock Est.: $400-$800.
