Impressive cased Sharps Breech-Loading Single Shot pistol, Second Type, .36 cal., 6-1/2” round barrel, blue finish, wood grips, backstrap period inscribed “I.M. Graham from his friends 1861”, #595 in overall very good to fine conditionshowing approx. 35% original blue finish on the frame and considerable muted original blue finish on the barrel, crisp action, sharp markings, overall good bore with some spots of erosion; fine grips with period initials “IMG” engraved on topof the left grip. The custom wood case is in overall very good condition circa 1950’s and beautifully constructed with compartments for the gun, a period plain brass flask, wood cleaning rod, Eley Bros. cap tin, original combinationtool, misc. lead balls and a key that works the lock of the case. This is the only period inscribed Sharps single shot pistol we have encountered and the inscription is definitely period and may be researchable; only approx. 350Second Types were manufactured between 1854 and 1857; the casing is expertly made; originally from an old collection and given the date of presentation, may have a Civil War association. Also accompanying this lot is a 1991 appraisal
