Important early studio made prop sword for use by famed actor Errol Flynn in the Motion Picture “The Private Lives of Elizabeth and Essex”, co-starring Bette Davis and Olivia De Havilland; approx. 41” overall with a 35.5” blade with wire wrapped grip. This piece is accompanied by a publicity photo of Flynn and De Havilland showing Flynn wearing this sword. Lot is accompanied by a copy of a letter from Historical Illustrator and artist for Motion Pictures, Television and Amusement Industries dated October 1, 2000, indicating this sword was previously in the November, 2000 Little John’s Auction and originally was made for use by Flynn in the above-noted Movie and later became part of Lou Burns’ Western Costume Co. inventory that served the four major motion picture studios: MGM, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox and Columbia. A great piece of early Hollywood ephemera. Est.: $500-$1,000.
