Important early authentic two-page hand-written Texas Court document (one-page with both sides containing written summation; the other page containing signatures of Petitioners for Special Term) dated April 11, 1840, and signed by JudgeJohn Hemphill of the 4th Judicial District. The document states the following: “To the Hon. John Hemphill judge of the Third (crossed out) Fourth Judicial district.Your petitioners Henry E. McCulloch and C.C. Colley would respectfully represent unto your Honor that they are now prisoners, one of them being charged with the murder of Reuben Rosa and the other as accessory to said murder, indictments having been found against them by the Grand Jury of the County of Gonzalez.
