Important and museum quality pair of Revolutionary War flintlock pistols by J. Walsh of Philadelphia, formerly in Charles DuPont collection. Walsh only worked from the 1770s to 1780 when his equipment wasadvertised for sale and he disappeared from any known record. Walsh was a maker for the Committee of Safety and it is likely these pistols were made on custom order for an American Revolutionary War era officer. Thepair are featured in the Roll of Honor, March 1989, center spread, where it recants the story that DuPont purchased 1 pistol from a known Pennsylvania dealer in 1942, and he made an agreement with legendary collectorSam Smith who owned its mate, that whoever passed away first would bequeath their pistol to the other. Mr. DuPont considered this pair the finest Revolutionary War flintlock pistols in private hands, made in thebirthplace of our Nation. The pair measure 14-1/2" overall with 8" brass cannon barrels, brass lockplates with nicely engraved brass mounts. The pistols are both signed "J Walsh" on the lockplates, and marked "J
