REVOLVER NOTED TO COLONEL WILLIAM R GIVEN OF THE 102ND OHIO VOLUNTEER INFANTRY. Cal. 36. S# 6181A. Back of right grip panel scratched "Wal R / Given / 102 OVI". Paper provenance dated Jan. 31, 1901 appears to read, "Dear Archie, this is Uncle Bill's pistol that he used in the war. The girl took almost everything, I got this pistol and Pickward got his compass." The 102nd Ohio Infantry was mustered for 3 years of service on August 18, 1862, under the command of Colonel William Given. The regiment was notably present at the Defense of Cincinatti in 1862 and the Siege of Dacatur in 1864. The 102nd Ohio Infantry mustered out of service on June 12th, 1865. The octagon 7 1/2" barrel has a brass stud front sight and is marked "E WHITNEY / N. HAVEN." Six-shot round cylinder with roll engraving lion, eagle, and shield emblems; the cylinder has six safety notches. Colt-style latch on the loading lever. Brass trigger guard. Two-piece matching-numbered walnut grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: paper prov. CONDITION: metal has a gray patina with areas of cleaned pitting, faded cyl. engraving, cyl. turn line, and deep marks. Grips are intact with thinning varnish, eroded wood on the bottom right grip panel, and scattered small gouges. Good bore, with strong gain twist rifling showing pitting. (01-25052/MD).
