INSCRIBED CIVIL WAR ERA THOMAS J. STAFFORD POCKET
PISTOL. Cal. 22 RF. S# 1040 (under left grip panel). Mfg. in New Haven, CT, 1860–1861, based on N. L. Babcock's patent. Matching numbered tip-down octagon 3 1/2" barrel with address on rib. Blade front sight. Brass frame with floral scroll engraving that extends to barrel flats. The backstrap is faintly inscribed and appears to read "G H Converor." Butt of frame marked with patent date. Two-piece rosewood grips. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: leather holster with brass stud retention. Fair condition, showing a scattered black exterior. CONDITION: barrel has a gray patina appearance with wear to markings & engraving. The frame has marks around the rear sight and a crack from the frame screw to the top of the frame behind the rear sight. Brass has a mustard patina throughout, with verdigris on the interior portions covered by grips and a somewhat washed inscription on the backstrap. Good grip finish with a crack around the screw on the back of the left panel and a repair chip near the butt of the right grip panel. Fair bore with patting. (01-25046/MD). $200-300.
