Hopi Kachina Parts & Katsina Sculpture Circ.1940
Offered in this lot are a Hopi Katsina sculpture and two parts for Kachina dolls. The first is an early traditional era style Katsina figure or "putsqatihu"; these figures are made specifically for infants. These are simply figures that contain enough characteristics of the kachina, so it is identifiable. One piece of cottonwood was used to carve this image that measures 8" long and 5" around. Next in the lot is a headdress for a "Sun Kachina" (Tawa). The headdress measures 6 1/4" x 4 ¾” and is painted blue with red, black, and white "feathers". There are two holes for this head piece to be attached to the Kachina. The next head piece is a black and white with a black background and the white crown pointing to the sky. The piece measures 3 1/2" x 3 1/2" with two holes for mounting. All of these pieces are in very good condition.
