This is a Middle Woodland Period Native American Indian raccoon effigy carved pipe from 200 B.C. to 500 A.D. The Hopewell Culture describes the trade and exchange system used by the people of this era that lived midwestern and northeastern U.S. This pipe was discovered in Pike County, Illinois. The piece has been intricately carved from solid pipestone with fine detail and is in good condition. The pipe has been repaired as shown. The pipe measures 1" x 1.25" x 2.25".
