Historical Painting from The Bowie Estate
Fine early American painitng of young lady, circa 1830's. The Bowie Family Collection sold at the Butterfield's, San Francisco, early 1990's with Rezin Bowie's rifle and other Bowie Family memorabilia. Purchased by Little John Gangel for Joseph Musso, who expertly restored it. Considerable controversy as to the identity of the artist who accomplished this work and to the identity of the subject exists. After more than thirty years of extensive research, Mr. Musso concluded the subject to be Ursula Bowie, Jim Bowie's wife. Mr. Musso also attributed the artwork, but some experts disagree with his findings. We all can agree that this is an important Texas historical painting, with provenance to the Bowie Family and done by an excellent artist, likely of great importance. Good condition as professionally restored. From the Joseph Musso Collection
