High quality over & under Flintlock 2 shot pistol by Tatham & Egg of London circa early 19th century with original silver plaques mounted on wrist which are period script inscribed, “Majr Thornhill, Hufsars” andsecond plaque mounted lower in the wrist “JWA 47th Regt.” Note: The JWA is very fancy in the script and our interpretation of the letters may not be correct as it could also be F or SWA. The bottom barrel shows aregistration number KD 3826. The pistol measures 10-1/2” overall with nearly 5” barrels of approx 62 caliber smooth bore. The locks are nicely engraved as are the mounts and trim and the butt is marked“Tatham & Egg/Improvement/979”. The pistol is mounted on left side with an attached swivel ramrod. The metal surfaces are good with some light pitting and normal aging. The hammers and small parts are original. The right hammer shows an old repair at the bottom jaw area. The stock is good with normal aging, there is a light coating of dirt and residue which would clean. An attractive pistol by a great maker with
