High quality late 19th to early 20th century machete with etched and nicked blade, horn gripscales, marked "Schutte Eunemann & Company Accero Antizado" with horsehead logo and catalog number 351. The blade showsperiod etching of Indians on horseback roping buffalo, 75-85% nickel finish, some light erosion and aging where nickel has lifted; grip shows some wear and large losses on one side, blade very good+ to near excellent. The machete measures 21" overall with 16-1/4" blade, and is the only example we have every viewed with such a great scene on its blade. An exhibition or presentation piece. The roping of buffalo was a performance stunt inthe Buffalo Bill Wild West Show, as the American Indian was too wise to try roping a wild buffalo.
