High grade presentation Civil War cavalry officer’s sword inscribed Presented to Col. W. B. Sipes 7th Regiment Penn. Veteran Cavalry / By the friends of the Regiment / 1864”. The sword shows a raised carved ivorygrip with American Eagle on Union Shield surrounded by stand of arms in high relief with floral borders on each side of the mounts. The pommel shows a large cut purple gemstone, possibly amethyst with largeAmerican Eagle mounted on the cap of the pommel. The guard is extremely fancy with five branches to the piercing. “US” in wreaths with fancy foliate scrolls. The scabbard shows raised relief appliqués and afigural of Sir George slaying the dragon, a wreath between the presentation plaque shows a blue enameled shield with the letter “S” set in small cut stones that may be diamonds. The drag shows an appliqués in relief offlowers. The hilt and mounts are gold plated, scabbard is silver plated. The blade is fancy etched with gold gilt showing a battle scenes, stands of arms, and florals. Approx. 80-90% gilt remains with nearly 100% of the
