High art percussion dueling/target pistol of continental manufacture, barrel gold inlaid Hyde & Goodrich in New Orleans and stamped H.W. White, Yankton, DK. The pistol measures 16” overall with .44 caliber rifled barrel of medium weight. The pistol is half stocked in good quality walnut. The lock is chiseled in high relief in figures of winged man and lady with hunter and rifle on hammer, gold hammered background. The tang is chiseled in scrolls and also shows gold background. The screw escutcheon shows chiseled figures of dragons with gold eyes, the triggerguard is chiseled with a portrait of a knight with sword and shield and gold backgrounds. The buttcap is nicely shaped with scalloping and scrolls. The stock is is carved and fluted and shows a figure of a lion on the forestock. The pistol is in very good to near fine condition showing patterned barrel which is done by turning. The lock and mounts show their original bright, just some slight discoloration and staining. The stock is good and shows an old crack and repair near the wrist that is almost undetectable. A very ornate and high grade European arm that shows two American agents marks. Refer Civil War Guns by
