Offered for sale is a High Grade Parker Bros. 10 Gauge Side by Side Damascus Double Hammer Shotgun. Parker Bros., also known at various times as Parker Brothers Manufacturing Company, Parker Brothers Guns, and Parker Bros. Shotguns, was an American firm almost exclusively producing shotguns from 1867-1942. During these years, approximately 242,000 guns were produced in various grades, and are widely considered the finest and most collectible American shotgun. This is a much higher than field grade shotgun with high grade damascus finish on the 32” barrels, beautiful game scene and scroll engraved lock plates. The lock plates both of which are marked Parker Bros. Barrel rib clearly marked “Parker Bros. Makers. Meriden Conn. Damascus Steel.” Bottom of receiver also game scene and scroll engraved with continuing scroll on the forend lever and breech, Forend lever catch marked “PATD. MAR 26, 1878.” Engraved fancy steel forend tip and trigger guard. Fine unaltered butt stock and forend with original butt plate and pistol grip cap. Tight action and mechanics with amazingly exc. bright bores. Considered one of the finest and most expensive U.S. made shotguns of the late 19th century and well into the 20th century. Many of these fine frontier era double barrel shotguns saw double use not only as sporting firearms, but as self defense guns as well as saw use by train and prison guards, lawmen plus Wells Fargo & Co. Very difficult to find in unaltered condition and in high grade model designation. This shotgun was manufactured in 1883. NO FFL transfer or NICS background check required.
