For your consideration is this Original Signed Herbert Cayatineto Navajo (Diné) Turquoise and Silver Pendant Necklace, circa 1950s. Navajo silversmiths are recognized for their artistic creations in a variety of forms using silver and turquoise. Navajos probably learned smithing from Mexican ironworkers in the 1850s, and by about 1875 some were working in silver. The first artisans were men; women began to work silver around 1918. The pendant features an Easter Blue Turquoise cabochon with Navajo symbols, eight Stormy Mountain turquoise cabochons with metal beads on the necklace. Reverse of pendant is signed "HC". A rich patina is visible throughout. Condition of this pendant necklace is good with no obvious signs of marring and shows good overall condition. Measures 14"L from base of pendant to hook and eye clasp. Total weight 64.5gms.
