Henshaw Marked Brown Bess Flintlock Musket
This is an example of a British military Brown Bess musket of the Revolutionary War Period. The lock is marked "HENSHAW" ahead of the hammer, there is a "crown/W" directly below the flash pan and "1779", and a heart shape with the letters "V","E","I" and "C" inside behind the hammer. The is a "VII" on the left rear of the barrel and an unrecognizable marking on the top. Iron hammer, frizzen, spring and pan, and brass mountings. Mounted with a full length stock with brass forend cap, sling swivel on the front of the forearm and trigger guard, and replacement iron ram rod. The same heart shape marking that's on the lock is also on the right side of the buttstock.

Condition: Very good. The barrel has a dark patina with overall moderate pitting. The remaining metal has a mottled gray patina. The brass has a dark, untouched aged patina. The stock is also very good with a crack on the right front, a few splinters missing along the edge and scattered minor scratches and dents. The action is fine.
